Friedensnobelpreis für IPPNW

IPPNW ist eine weltweite Ärzteorganisation mit ca. 200.000 Mitgliedern in über 60 Staaten. Sie wurde 1980 gemeinsam von den beiden Kardiologen Prof. Bernard Lown (Boston) und Prof. Evgenij Tschasow (Moskau) gegründet. Wichtigstes Ziel der Organisation ist es, die Menschen aller Länder über die medizinischen Folgen atomarer Katastrophen aufzuklären und sich für ein weltweites Verbot von Atomwaffen einzusetzen. Die IPPNW bemüht sich heute nicht nur um die Abschaffung von Atomwaffen, sondern auch um vertrauensbildende und friedensfördernde Initiativen.

OMEGA/IPPNW Austria, wurde 1983 vom Wiener Kinderarzt Univ.-Prof. Dr. Walter Swoboda in Wien gegründet.

IPPNW (International Physicians for the Prevention of Nuclear War) is a non-partisan global federation of medical organizations dedicated to research, education, and advocacy relevant to the prevention of nuclear war. To this end, IPPNW seeks to prevent all wars, to promote non-violent conflict resolution, and to minimize the effects of war and preparations for war on health, development, and the environment.

While the abolition of nuclear weapons is IPPNW’s highest priority, IPPNW recognizes that militarism and war rob both rich and poor societies of resources to protect and promote health. For this reason, IPPNW addresses the inter-related issues of landmines, small arms and light weapons, developing world debt, and chemical and biological weapons.
